BRICKMANIA 2012 was a great success! With over 500 guests on campus, and media coverage by multiple magazine, newspaper, and TV news stations, the South Florida community came together for an amazing afternoon of building and connection of both legos and friends.
We look forward to our next Brickmania event in 2013.
LEGO® Contest
Students (ages 6-18) are given an opportunity to build an individual original creation from LEGO®bricks at home and bring in for judging.
Objective: Brickmania hopes to inspire and cultivate young minds in the way of new technical and scientific inventions and innovations for future generations.
2012 Division Themes:
Kindergarten through Grade 2
Ocean Notions: Let your imagination run wild with visions of the sea. Beaches, Boats, Coral, Mermaids, Fishes or anything else your imagination allows.
Grades 3 through 5
Hobbies & Interests: What hobbies and interests do you have? Build a Football, Football Field or your favorite team. Let your imagination run wild and show us your passion in LEGOS®.
Grades 6 through 8
High Tech: Look around and see all the technology around. What do your see? iPads, Text Messages, Robots etc… Create anything relating to technology and feel free to create movable or robotic/electronic parts.
Grades 9 through 12
Make a Difference: First Lady Michelle Obama, in a recent essay posted in USA Today, "The current generation of young people is one of the most socially conscious and active, with 61 percent of 13- to 25-year-olds saying they feel personally responsible for making a difference in the world." We would like to know how you would like to make a difference in LEGOS. Choose a worthy cause or something that you feel strongly about to help make the world a better place and build it in LEGOS. Your creation can bring attention to a problem or a solution if you have it. You may add robotic components to it if you would like. Please also include a 4 x 6 Index card that identifies what your cause with a summary of your creation.
Student Activity Tables & Robotic Demonstrations
Students will participate in exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) educational activities that promote spatial concepts, introduce cause-and-effect, improve dexterity, and reinforce problem solving. Programs of this nature provide an amazing learning opportunity for children, as they spark their interest in science and math, possibly leading to careers in science down the road.
It’s a great afternoon of Family Fun and learning competition!!!
